Your Hands
Tools of light

The hand chakras as gateways for healing energy

✦   Your Hands – tools of light

In Reiki, the hands play a central role. There is a simple reason for this: through them, energy is perceived and passed on in a particularly immediate way. Many traditions knew the healing significance of the hands long before anyone used the word Reiki. Laying on of hands, blessing touch, healing gesture, mudra, a protective hand on heart or forehead: human beings have long known that touch can be more than mere contact.

In Reiki, one speaks of hand chakras, meaning subtle energy centers in the palms. They are smaller than the seven main chakras, but very important for practice. Through them, energy is often felt and channeled especially clearly. Even before an attunement, it can happen that your hands become warm, tingle, or perceive a subtle pressure between the palms.

Why the hands in particular

The hands connect perception and action. With them you feel, hold, give, receive, soothe, and work. They are at once very sensitive and very expressive. That is exactly why they are so well suited to energy work. A Reiki master would not say anything overloaded here. Rather, something very concrete: the hands often reveal faster than the head where something is pulling, blocked, or becoming soft.

When you slowly move both palms toward and away from each other, a subtle field can build between them. Some speak of an energy ball. This is not a required idea, but an exercise for consciously perceiving sensations such as warmth, pulsing, or slight resistance. For beginners this is helpful because the hands are often the first place where Reiki is not only thought about, but felt.

The hands in different traditions

The idea that hands can have a healing effect is found in many cultures. In Christianity, you encounter the laying on of hands. In Hinduism, mudras direct the flow of energy. In Buddhism, hand positions carry a clear spiritual and energetic meaning. This is no coincidence. The hands have always been mediators between inner state and outer expression.

Reiki therefore does not stand in isolation. It is a clear method within a much older human knowledge: touch can bring order, calm, and connection. Precisely for that reason, one should not work with the hands roughly or mechanically. Good hands listen.

Developing sensitivity

Not everyone feels the same thing immediately. Some perceive strong tingling early on, others more warmth or heaviness, and others at first almost nothing. This is not a judgment of quality. Sensitivity grows with regularity. Someone who consciously perceives their hands every day trains not only the hand chakras, but the whole attention.

A simple example: in the morning you place one hand on the heart and one on the belly. After two minutes, you may notice that the upper hand becomes warmer while the breath deepens under the lower one. Such simple experiences are more valuable than grand-sounding claims. They show that your hands are beginning to become more conscious as tools.

The attitude behind the touch

In Reiki, the point is not to force something with the hands. You do not press energy into another person. You lay the hands on or hold them above the body and remain present. This very stepping back of your own ego makes the hands strong. They do not serve performance, but the transmission of calm, warmth, and ordered attention.

Later, when you work with Reiki symbols, the hands take on further functions. Then they become not only organs of sensing and giving, but also carriers of conscious energetic alignment. But before that time comes, it is worth taking the foundation seriously: quiet hands, clear hands, listening hands.

This is how the real training begins

When you look at your hands today, rub them, hold them quietly, or place them on an area of the body, this is not a side issue. It is the beginning of a relationship. The person who works with Reiki learns to trust their hands again. Not blindly, not in an exaggerated way, but with attention and practice. Ordinary hands do not thereby become magical hands, but conscious hands. And that is worth much more.

"What is important for me today after reading this day?"

Your answer belongs in your personal Reiki journal. It grows with every day and stays with you alone.

Your answer belongs in your personal Reiki journal. It grows with every day and stays with you alone.

Once you are signed up, single days become a path: your progress is saved, your journal is kept, and the attunement days open at the right time.
